Some basic fruits for Oriental White Eye (Puteh)
It is recommended to feed the following fruits in a preferred rotational order, on alternate days.
1) Water chestnuts.
- Heat/Cool balance.
- High fibre and high water content for clearing digestive system of waste.
2) Red Apple (Recommended)
- Natural apple acid to help digestive system break down chitin (protein cover shells of insects and worms).
3) Green Apple (Some hobbyists prefer this)
- Natural apple acid to aid digestion.
4) Papaya (Recommended - fully ripened)
- Heat/Cool balance.
- High fibre and high water content for clearing digestive system of waste contents.
5) Red Dragon Fruit
- Heat/Cool balance.
- High water content for good digestive clearance.
7) Orange
- Western orange
- or Thai Chor Kun aka Limau Lingkat in Malay langauge (Recommended limited size - 2cm x 2cm x 2cm).
- Orange acid aids digestion and helps in cleaning out oils left behind in the throat and digestive systems from bird food.
6) Banana - Pisang Kapok (Recommended limited size - 1cm x 1cm x 1cm)
- High fibre and moderately high water content for clearing digestive system of waste.
- High fibre for wet stools control
7) Katola (Ketola)
- Heat/Cool balance.
- High fibre and high water content for clearing digestive system of waste.
DRINKING WATER
Please ensure that the following water is NOT provided to the puteh for drinking:
1) tap water
2) standing overnight tap water
3) boiled tap water
Reason: Chlorine and Chloramine are present in tap water. Chlorine can be removed by natural or forced evaporation (via boiling) but Chloramine has to be removed by addition of chemicals. The more chemicals we introduce into the drinking water, the more risks we face in negatively affecting the health and form of the bird.
Recommended sources of drinking water:
1) Good mineral water.
2) Filtered water meant for human drinking. For example - Most chemicals in tap water are removed by home filtration systems, the resultant water is meant for human drinking.
THE DEWORMING ISSUE
Oriental White Eye - Mata Puteh
Deworm - Mix 2 drops of pure deworm into 30-40ml of water (put in cup or water rocket) - leave this to the puteh to drink.
Check solution level every day, if low, add water back to original level, if dry up totally or dirty with bird food pellet or bird droppings, do a fresh new deworm solution and give.
Total treatment deworm treatment is 5 days.
Next deworm session for your putehs is - 6 to 8 weeks later. If you feed mealworms or any other live food, deworm your birds 6 weeks later. If you don't feed live food - deworm birds 8 weeks later.
NOTES:
1) If bird is undergoing molt, deworm can be used.
2) If bird is under other types of medication or vitamins/minerals supplements, do not give deworm.
3) Why must I deworm my bird?
Reply:
The parasitic worms steal and partake of every nutrition we provide to the bird. The bird does not receive maximum available nutrition.
These worms also affect the form, performance and health of the bird, preventing the bird to achieve maximum status in form, performance and health.
3) My bird doesn't eat live food. My bird eats only dry food. Do I need to deworm my bird regularly?
Reply: Case studies 1 & 2
Part 1 - looking deeper at what can happen:
Case study 1:
Health experts warned the public against airborne transmission of parasitic infections which are commonly acquired through soil transmission or poor sanitation.
Dr. Vicente Belizario, a parasitology expert from the University of the Philippines (UP), said ascariasis, trichuriasis and hookworm infections can now be potentially transmitted through inhalation.
"A child or even an adult can acquire parasitic infection by inhalation of dust infected with eggs of worms," Belizario told participants of a public health forum on control of soil-transmitted helminths.
Belizario noted that an infected person can transmit 10 million parasitic eggs per gram of feces and spread the infection to a great number of people in his community.

Part 2 - looking deeper at what can happen:
Case study 2:
How is pinworm infection spread?
Pinworm infection is spread by the fecal-oral route, that is by the transfer of infective pinworm eggs from the anus to someone’s mouth, either directly by hand or indirectly through contaminated clothing, bedding, food, or other articles.
Pinworm eggs become infective within a few hours after being deposited on the skin around the anus and can survive for 2 to 3 weeks on clothing, bedding, or other objects. People become infected, usually unknowingly, by swallowing (ingesting) infective pinworm eggs that are on fingers, under fingernails, or on clothing, bedding, and other contaminated objects and surfaces. Because of their small size, pinworm eggs sometimes can become airborne and ingested while breathing.

OVERVIEW PROGRESS ON THE
ACTION OF NUMBER 1 (ORIENTAL WHITE EYE) PUTEH FOOD
1) Introductory feeding
For first time feeding, the introduction of new bird food type for the bird means that the digestive system will adjust and adapt itself to digesting the new bird food and extracting nutrients from the food.
The first 3 to 5 days of feeding NUMBER 1 Puteh Food may see wet stools occurring as the digestive system adjusts and adapts itself to manage the bird food. This is normal.
2) After the first 3-5 days, the digestive system of the bird begins to increase its nutrient extraction efficiency. The stools will start to firm up nicely. When the puteh's stools become more rice grain-like in shape, the puteh's form, energy and alertness will follow suit accordingly.
3) It is recommended that hobbyists try all the feed techniques. Apply 1 feed technique to 1 bird, compare all the birds' progress. This way of feeding will help the hobbyist decide on the best method of feeding their birds - either in full pure unmixed form or in mixed form.
** Feeding pure or mixed ratio with other bird food brands/types
These are the following recommended ways to feed:
1) Switch over straight away and feed 100% NUMBER 1 Puteh Food.
2) NUMBER 1 Puteh Food ratio to NUMBER 1 Jambul Food (NUMBER 1 Red Whiskered Bulbul Jambul Food) = 1:1
- ie. 50% N1 Puteh Food and 50% N1 Jambul Food
3) NUMBER 1 Puteh Food ratio to NUMBER 1 Jambul Food = 1:3
- ie. 25% N1 Puteh Food and 75% N1 Jambul Food (1/4 is N1 Puteh Food and 3/4 is N1 Jambul Food)
